Our county fair was last week and the kids entered items into the youth divisions this year. Mimi came up with the idea and Laney was all about it! So the two of them spent an afternoon together in Mimi's kitchen making up four batch of cookies to enter in the youth culinary division. Laney Kay was super proud of her cookies and I think even more proud of spending time in the kitchen with her Mim's.
After thinking about it, me and the kids decided they should enter some items into the arts and crafts categories and so we gathered up painting supplies from our craft cabinet one afternoon and headed out onto the porch to let them create!
Caleb painted this oval - and the design was all his own idea. Very sweet little red cross ...
Laney had just recently picked out this cross at Hobby Lobby and so she decided to go ahead and paint it and enter it. She used a little technique with an eraser to make the dots on the edges of the cross.
The night we went to the fair the kids were ecstatic. Every single item they took won a ribbon! Laney won first place in 3 cooking categories and 2nd place in another. And her art won a blue ribbon too. Caleb only entered the one item and he was so pleased that it placed 2nd in his division!
After looking at their winning entries we spent some time on the midway before little Laney got a terrible headache and we called it a early night. All totaled the kids won $16 between the two of them and are already talking about what they will enter next year!
