Back into the order of things as they happened. Late this winter we were hit with several weeks of snow and ice. One week before we were set to move into our new house, we were hit again with a snow/ice storm. The roads started getting icy faster than we typically see. So, since we didn't want to be stranded at the old house (unable to work on new house progress) we decided to pack a few things up quickly and go to the new house for the night, telling the kids, "It will be like camping - it will be an adventure."
By the time we were able to make it to town (driving very slowly) half of town was without electricity. The family that rents from us called to say they were without power too. As timing would have it, the husband was out of town on business, the wife's car would not make it up the hill to leave the rental house and to top it off they have a new baby along with their 10 year old.
We didn't know what to do. But we knew them staying where they were with no heat was not an option so we swung by and picked the 3 of them up. We made a pit stop at the grocery or what was supposed to be the grocery store. I felt like I had walked into a movie scene when I went in. Most of the necessary groceries were gone and others were covered with cardboard - really creepy to say the least. But I managed to rummage up enough to feed us on for a couple of days.
And so - we spent our first night in our new house with our friendly tenants - with no furniture! That made for a lot of bodies piled up on the floor on the blankets we all scrounged up. LOL! Sometimes you gotta just make it work however you can. Thankfully our power at the new house only stayed off a few hours and we were all able to ride out the rest of the storm relatively comfortably. The kids had a blast playing in the yard with the family's son. We were relieved however when things melted off enough to go home to our comfy beds and furniture.
That was an unexpected start to life in the new house. So glad warmer weather is here and our move is now behind us!
