Laney had her first year of 4-H and the week of the Benton County Fair had her busy! All spring and summer Laney worked at learning about raising pigs and getting them ready for the Youth Market Show at the fair.
She also worked at Clifty Farms each week learning how to cure Country Ham, keeping her record book and writing her speech for the Ham Project - also at the Fair.
She did a great job, learned a lot, earned a lot and can't wait to participate again next year!
Piggies started out small and spent all summer putting on weight. And in the life of a pig, that is a good thing!
Caleb got to try his hand out at showing hogs in the junior practice round division. He did great and we can't wait to see him in another couple years when he is old enough to participate in the youth rounds.
Laney did a really good job once the show started. It was her first year and she was a bit nervous. But now the hog bug has bitten her and she can not wait to do it all over again next year.

After the hog show was over it was time to show & auction off the country ham Laney made. We were all surprised and LOVED when her Poppa unexpectedly began to bid on her ham. Given his huge love of all things pork, it was the last thing we expected. But $500 later, the ham was his and Laney's huge small was probably worth every dollar of it to her Poppa.

The last day of the fair was Saturday but the family wasn't done yet. Little Mamie was in the Baby Show and oh my goodness of course she won a trophy! She is a doll!

Saturday night was the final event and the family wasn't going out without some participation. Michaela did the Reed Pig family proud!! She played on a team with in the Pig catching contest and did so good! Covered in mud and I think that husband of her had never been prouder. :)
A great week at the Fair and looking forward to next year!
