Smokey Mountains 2015

Our vacation this year - seriously one of our favorite trips to date. If we could snap our fingers and be right back in the mountains - I promise, all 4 of us would be there!

We knew when we pulled up to set up camp it would be a great week. Our spot backed right up to this gorgeous little mountain stream. The kids thoroughly enjoyed it: wading, fishing, chasing the ducks that swam up it etc...
Seriously tho son, it's water, not poison.
Our little adventurer

One thing we probably could have done a little better was to actually rest a bit on vacation- lol! But we seemed to fill every day with activities, and honestly we loved it. Caleb picked up every brochure he could find and the first night, stayed up late reading every single one of them - he did not want to miss out on anything! I am serious, this boy can read really well. And he took his planning job very seriously!

Our little piece of heave on earth for the week -

Can we all take a moment to really appreciate my husband's shirt here?! Classy no?

One thing I love about staying at campgrounds on our trips is the people. We always are so impressed with how family oriented camping is. Laney quickly made a new friend and Caleb made three- all of them 12 years old :)
(and he was oblivious to the age difference)

The campground also had a really nice pool that stayed pretty much empty - so we took advantage of that one hot day.
Now - on with some of our activities....
Touring the Titanic exhibit. This ended up being one of our favorites. We met the most amazing man who portrayed the captain of the ship. He was a christian and presented the gospel as part of his presentation. It was a great surprise to see this man (in his 80's) still faithfully serving God and telling everyone he came in contact about salvation.
They say there are bears in them thar hills
Dinner at Paula Deen's - great view- great food! Definite win ;)

After dinner at Paula Deen's one evening we stayed around "the Island" and watched the night water show. It was relaxing and the kids loved it.

I mean - it was so pretty!
Laney's purchase on the trip - a fox. A stuffed animal (shocking!)
Our girl loves her stuffed animals. . . like nobodies business!
We spent two days up in the mountains, hiking, climbing Clingman's Dome, exploring and taking in the views.

Another one of my favorites was the hike we took up the side of a moutain through the middle of a creek! It was freezing water and Caleb may have slipped and fallen into it and experienced just how cold it was. LOL!

Dollywood...

We also spent two days at Dollywood and had a blast! The kids rode some grown up rides and are still talking about it several weeks later now.

On Saturday morning we headed out to Cade's Cove in high hopes of seeing some wildlife (i.e. I wanted to see a bear really bad). The area is just lovely and old churches just fascinate me, so I got my fill of those since there are several in the area.

Keeping an eye out for a bear...
And then....IT. HAPPENED....
That's right - we spotted a bear. Eagle Eye Laney saw it, and then quickly rolled her window up in the truck ;)
We got to set and watch this guy, who was only about 30 yards from us, for several minutes.

I loved the area and reading about the history, although it made me sad for the families who once called this place home that had it stripped away from them to turn it into a park. Alot of work and history here... The mountains surround every part of the area and it is gorgeous...even on a grey day.

We also went to the Dixie Stampede, as well as did some shopping, but I think that is more than enough photos for one post - hah!
